Prayer shawls are symbolic of God’s love. They comfort and beautify. The United Church of Rowayton’s Prayer Shawl Ministry (AKA the Knitistry) combines compassion with the love of knitting, and companionship. Each stitch and each shawl is prayed for, and a final blessing is given to the shawl before it is given away.

Shawls have been given to individuals who are members of the church as well as to people outside of the United Church of Rowayton, even brought to those living in other countries. These people may be undergoing medical procedures or experiencing a loss. Shawls are often given in times of bereavement or just when someone needs a hug. They are also given in times of celebration and joy. We give a prayer shawl to parents when their children are baptized.
